The Breast Unit, Southend Hospital NHS Trust
The Breast Unit has a well-established team of specialists who work within recognised guidelines for the management of breast disorders.
The Unit is also the designated Cancer Centre for the people of South Essex, and provides the breast screening service for Shoebury, Thorpe Bay, Southend, Westcliff, Leigh, Thundersley, Canvey, Basildon, Stanford, Corringham, Grays, Lakeside, Rochford, Hockley, Rayleigh, and Wickford.
Southend Breast Unit diagnoses and treats over 300 new breast cancers each year. The Cancer Centre also receives for treatment a further 150 patients per annum diagnosed with cancer from the Breast Unit at Basildon Hospital.
Since 2002 the Breast Unit's commitment and contribution to clinical research has been recognised by The European Cancer Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer/Breast Cancer Cooperative Group.

We have a range of Breast Unit clinics at Southend Hospital to help diagnose, educate and follow-up, as well as improve our treatments.
Our breast clinics include three rapid diagnositc clinics, a familial breast cancer clinic and a prosthesis and bra fitting service, as well as lymphoedema clinics. In addition we have a screening service for women in South Essex between the ages of 50 and 70.
